 Making your Business Case
at the Executive Level

Virtual Workshop for Briefing Professionals (CCC)
Thursday, December 12, 2024
10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Central Time

Workshop Leader: Candie Hurley

In the life cycle of a briefing program there will almost certainly be times when you’ll need to make a case for additional funding. It may be a request to refresh the Center, update the A/V, obtain additional headcount, justify existing staffing levels, add an app, or build an entirely new Center in a new geography. You’ll likely find yourself competing with other internal groups for the limited fund of corporate investment dollars. How do you prepare the strongest possible case and make your story stand out?

This workshop explores how to structure a compelling business case and communicate the benefits of the investment to executive-level decision makers. We’ll consider:
  • The components of a business case
  • Tangible and intangible business impacts
  • How to build advocacy across the enterprise

Who Should Attend:
Managers and Directors of briefing programs that may have a current or anticipated need to request funding will be able to use this as a working session. It will also be helpful for managers who communicate the value proposition and benefits of their program in a compelling way as part of an annual readout to senior management.

Course Outline:
  • Review of business basics (e.g., capital vs. expense, business plan v. business case, ROI, etc.)
  • Determining stakeholders
  • Components of a business case
  • Organizing a compelling story for executives

Deliverables:
  • Presentation slides which include a template for a business case
  • Core Competency Curriculum credit
